Mathematical Process Standards
  • Apply Mathematics

    The student applies mathematics to problems arising in everyday life, society, and the workplace.

  • Problem-Solving Model

    The student uses a problem-solving model that incorporates analyzing given information, formulating a plan or strategy, determining a solution, justifying the solution, and evaluating the problem-solving process and the reasonableness of the solution.

  • Select Tools and Techniques

    The student selects appropriate tools and techniques, including real objects, manipulatives, paper and pencil, and technology, and techniques such as mental math, estimation, and number sense, to solve problems.

  • Communicate Mathematical Ideas

    The student communicates mathematical ideas, reasoning, and implications using multiple representations, including symbols, diagrams, graphs, and language.

  • Form Representations

    The student creates and uses representations to organize, record, and communicate mathematical ideas.

  • Analyze Relationships

    The student analyzes mathematical relationships to connect and communicate mathematical ideas.

  • Justify Reasoning

    The student displays, explains, and justifies mathematical ideas and arguments using precise mathematical language in written or oral communication.

  • Number and Operations

    The student applies grade-level number, operation, and quantitative reasoning to represent and use whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and rational numbers.

  • Algebraic Reasoning

    The student applies algebraic reasoning to identify, describe, and analyze patterns, relationships, expressions, and equations at the grade level.

  • Geometry and Measurement

    The student applies geometry and measurement concepts to describe, classify, and measure two- and three-dimensional shapes and to solve real-world problems.

  • Data Analysis

    The student applies data analysis to represent and interpret data using tables, graphs, and statistical measures appropriate to the grade level.

  • Personal Financial Literacy

    The student applies mathematical reasoning to manage personal financial decisions, including saving, spending, and credit appropriate to the grade level.

STAAR Mathematics (Grades 6-8)

STAAR Mathematics is the spring summative math test for grades 6 through 8, aligned to the TEKS for math.

STAAR EOC Algebra I

End-of-course exam taken at the completion of Algebra I, typically grade 8 or 9. Students must pass all five STAAR EOCs to graduate from a Texas public high school.

National Monitoring

NAEP (National Assessment of Educational Progress)

Federally administered sample-based assessment in reading, mathematics, science, writing, and other subjects. NAEP results inform state-by-state comparisons rather than individual student or school accountability.
